I found this helpful / useful to Charles first lecture. BTW I did not agree that Bells & Whistles ,
( user friendliness & functionality) takes precedence over Performance.

Meaning, if it doesn't have good to outstanding "Performance" , then it'll never fly. Either the director won't let it out-the-door, or if it does, by fluke, get released, then no-one will buy it.

Point in fact, the Radio Shack Trash-80, sorry, meant to say TRS-80, had all the good points of friendliness and B.A.S.I.C language, but just didn't have any performance! If the programmer / analyst doesn't put Performance as Job #1, then the competition will !, no-matter how fun or exciting, salable, modular, extendable or secure yours is.
