The utility blm is the Boolean Line Manipulator and supports all of the aboved mentioned operations. It is also more than 1000 times faster than the shell and it is much easier to read and write complex operations. The download page for blm is linked in this post and it is auto-installable in Debian and Ubuntu as the blm package.
