My idea of gathering programming reddit news is very similar to yours. Apart from those you listed, mine include
-Django
-Geek
-Apple
-Xkcd (for some fun, once in a while)
As for the RSS problem, it depends on what you want to do with the overflown feeds. You can either read them patiently, or "Mark all as Read" button is quite handy. YMMV
